A visionary par excellence, Dr Ravi Pillai, Managing Director of the Bahrain-based construction services major Naseer S.l Hajri Corporation (NSH) and Petrochem, Saudi Arabia, has added a new jewel in his crown of achievements – the prestigious “Padmashri” honour by the Government of India.

Dr Ravi Pillai, the Bahrain-based business tycoon, presides over a multi-million dollar business empire, employing 50,000 people in the industrial, contracting and oil refining sector out of which 28,000 are Indians, thus becoming the single largest employer of Indians in the Gulf. A role model to the world, Dr. Ravi Pillai, while bringing in strides of development in his adopted country, has also displayed a sense of dedication to his homeland. This businessman-cum-philanthropist wishes to recruit many more people from India, which is expected to come true with the several multi-million dollar international contracts on the anvil. Over the past few years, his employees have been remitting several crores every month to India. This is expected to increase and will go a long way in supporting India’s economic growth.

Conquering a gamut of sectors, from petroleum to real estate, tourism to social service, Dr. Pillai has made history with his amazing accomplishments.The construction services of his organization in the Gulf, cater to the needs of industries like refineries, oil and gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, cement, power, desalination and steel. It is a matter of pride for Indians that the skilled manpower including Engineers are very well-trained and get a salary comparable to the best in the world. Dr Pillai was selected as the ‘Best Partner’ of Samsung Engineering from among the 100 major companies of the world at an industry award in Korea.

Dr. Pillai, with his great passion for his homeland has plans of investing in India in a big way in the fields of hospitality and medical tourism apart from petro-chemical and infrastructure sectors.

He has already set up the Upasana Hospital and Research centre in Kollam where the poor receive free medical treatment. Dr Pillai has also donated land to a number of orphanages in Kerala in a continuing contribution to the cause of the humanity. His services during the 2004 tsunami won national recognition and his contribution towards the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake was immense, to say the least.

This business magnate has also worked towards the bright future of the younger generation by foraying into the field of education. The New Millenium School in Bahrain offers excellent education, matching internationals standards. Upasana Nursing College at Kollam is another institution which proves his dedication towards providing higher education in his homeland.

Dr. Pillai has been bestowed with the highest award to a NRI from Indian Government – “Pravasi Bharatiya Samman”, India Govt’s Padmasree Award, apart from a number of prestigious awards from the Governments in the Gulf region.

Ravi Pillai graduated from D.B.College, Sasthamcotta and proceeded to pursue a Business Management degree. He acquired his Doctorate from Excelsior University, U.S.A. Born to Shri. Balakrishna Pillai and Smt.Saradamma, Ravi Pillai is married to Smt.Geetha and blessed with son Ganesh Ravi Plilai and daughter Arathi Ravi Pillai.

The new commerce block of the Sasthamcotta DB College has been constructed by B. Ravi Pillai, as he is a former student of the college.
