P. Sivaprasad
Noted Writer / Columnist

The meaning of life explored through the external and internal factors of the human mind is depicted in his poems, making him a creative humanist to the core. His poems and other literary creations reflect the social evils and expose the realities of the rubbish world, hitherto brushed under the carpet. His poetry aims to stimulate our sixth sense and make us think of the infinite possibilities unfolding in front of us.

P. Sivaprasad was born in Mynagappally in the year 1962 (Mother: Santhakumary Amma, Father: V. Prabhakaran Pillai). His schooling up to 10th was in MSBHS, Vengai, Sasthamcotta and graduation in Devaswam Borad College, Sasthamcotta. Sivaprasad has represented the Devaswam Board College and participated in the Kerala University youth festival competitions for Poem, Story and Drama for three consecutive years and also has participated twice in the University Literary Camp.

He had been shaking hands with political and social activities, right from his school days, till 1992, when he was the Secretary of AIYF Kunnathoor Taluk Committee and District Vice President of Yuvakalasahithy. He was an associate to Purogamana Kalasaahithya Samgham, IPTA (Indian Peoples’ Theatre Association), Kerala Grandhasala Sangham etc.

Simultaneously, his poems and other literary works have been published in different periodicals and he was a stage performer of poems (Kaviyarangu) in the southern districts of Kerala. The speciality of his poems is that they revolve around the depth of humanity, fragrance of nature, agony of dishonored love and ultimately the unpleasant truths around and inside us.

He was awarded with Asianet–Atlas Poetry Award 2002 (‘KachchEri’) and 2003 (‘Rakthamazha’) for best poem, Asianet–Kairali Poetry Award 2004 (‘MaNalrEkhakaL’) and 2005 (‘Arkkum ARiyaaththathu’), Dubai Kairali Kalakendra Best Poetry award (‘BalichchOra’), Navodaya Saamskaarika Vedi {Dammam, KSA} Best Poetry Award (‘Malayalam’) etc. His Political Criticism has been imaged through various columns, for a long period in ‘Malayalam News’, the first Malayalam News paper published from Middle East (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia).

He is outspoken about the dual life of ‘Pravasi’ in different verses. Detailing the failure in bridging the gap in our mindset, he portrays ‘Keralite’ as a fish in the aquarium who doesn’t have an escape to join the vast sea. He adds to regret that our financial growth highlights only the haves and does not touch the issues of have-nots! Thoughts, concerns, worries related to human beings get reflected in Sivaprasad’s poems, bringing out his intense passion in the trials and travails of human life. He loves Dramas, Movies, Folk Songs, Ghazals, Classical Music, Ottanthullal and Kathakali.
