Govt. Higher Secondary School, Sasthamcotta – ESTD 1900
Sasthamcotta Government Higher Secondary School, (formerly known as Government High School) is one of the oldest schools in Kunnathur Taluk, located in 200 meter away from Sasthamcotta junction. The school is affiliated to the Kerala State Board of Education. The history of the school goes back to 1900, when a normal UP school was started by the Government. In 1979 it becomes High School. It is a Malayalam medium school under the supervision of Kollam District Panchayath.

When the Kerala State Board of Education decided to move the 2 year intermediate course, between High School and University from colleges to schools in the year 2000, Sasthamcotta High School was also part of the program. As part of this change, the name of the school was also changed to Government Higher Secondary School. Students from nearest areas like Kallada, Mynagappally etc are studying in this School. The School has a glorious heritage of several decades and has contributed to the society various distinguished personalities in different walks of life.
