D. B. College, Sasthamcotta (Arts & Science College Since 1964)

This reverent temple of higher education was started by the honourable Travancore Devaswam Board in June 1964. It is the embodiment of the dreams and aspirations of the late Kumpalathu Sanku Pillai, the founder personality behind its origin. The selection of the college site itself denotes the poetic vision of the mighty beloved popular leader of the masses of this area. He will rightly be remembered with reverence and gratitude by the generations to come. Surrounded on three sides by the famous pure water lake and blessed and protected at the entrance by the Lord Sastha. It is an ideal hill top at peace and tranquillity to be the afford of an association scholars. Being away from the din and bustle of the towns the campus lends a calm and serene atmosphere. Let us put our Heads and Hearts together to achieve the sublimation of our souls. Let this College be a walking stick and eye opener to the springing youngsters of the region, in their path of life and let it provide all means to learn the art of life.

Being a Junior college with Pre degree course only for a short span of two years this institution was upgraded into a First Grade College in 1967. Since then various courses were started at the Graduate and Post graduate levels and the college now provides Degree courses in 14 disciplines and Post Graduate courses in five.. Affiliated to the famous University of Kerala and to the University Grants Commission of India. This college is one of the largest institution of Human Resource Development with a strength of about 4000 students on the rolls. It had passed through all tests of time successfully and celebrated its Silver Jubilee during 1989-90 and now complete its thirty years of meritorious service in producing useful men and women. The strength of teaching staffs is 150 and that of non teaching staff is 80. This large establishment is paid and posted by the Government of Kerala Under Direct Payment scheme and is under the triple control of the Travancore Devaswom Board.

The starting of this centre of higher learning in 1964 in itself was a bold step on the part of the Honourable Travancore Devaswom Board then headed by the Late Mankuzhi Madhavan, as the President and Sri. Makkappuzha Vasudevan pillai and the late Kesavan Potti as members. They had succeeded in facing all prides and prejudices against entering in the field of sponsoring and fostering colleges. All of us should remember them with love and honour for the very existence of this mighty temple of Lourdes Saraswathy and Lekshmi. All their successors to the management had nursed this college in proper lines contributed to its well being and they will all be duly revered.
