Bharanikavu - The Heart of Sasthamcotta / Kunnathur Taluk
Bharanikavu is a town situated in the very heart of Sasthamcotta / Kunnathur Taluk. This is a junction of 4 Roads, coming from (1) Kollam - Kundara - Kottiyam side, (2) Kottarakkara - Adoor side, (3) Chavara - Karunagappally - Sasthamcotta side and (4) Chakkuvally - Anayadi - Charummood side. There are around thousand people are going through Bharanikavu every day. Bharanikavu is a fast-developing town and business center.

Bharanikavu is located on the Sasthamcotta - Adoor road. Bharanikavu is famous for its Devi Temple, one of the famous temple in Kunnathur Taluk. The famous Bharani festival is on Malayalam era's month Meenam's "Bharani Nakshtram". That’s why this place is called Bharanikavu. This place is a part of Sasthamcotta panchayath.

Etymology
It is believed that Bharanikavu derived its name from ‘Bharani’ - The famous Bharani festival at the Devi temple here is on Malayalam era's month Meenam's "Bharani Nakshtram" and 'Kavu' - means Temple.

Getting there
Bharanikavu is the meeting point of State Highway and a proposed National Highway. Chavara – Adoor State highway and Kollam – Theni proposed National Highway.

Nearest Bus Station : Bharanikavu is connected to many places of Kollam, Pathanamthitta Kottayam and Alapuzha by buses. Nearest main bus station from where frequent services are available, is Sasthamcotta (2 km)

It is the main transport hub to Kunnathur Taluk. The town is well connected to major towns and cities inside and outside Kollam District by the State run K.S.R.T.C and Private Buses. Both KSRTC and Pvt Buses play equal role to satisfy the transportation needs of the town. The cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Chavara, Kundara, Adoor, Pathanamthitta, Karunagappally, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Kottarakkara, Kottiyam etc. are connected by KSRTC and Pvt Buses. There are hundreds of buses going through Bharanikavu Jn.
